Infamous in the annals of climbing, is the Compressor Route of Cerro. Cesare Maestri might well have been the first person to make it up the rock portion, but his ascent was quite controversial. The first official ascent was by the "Ragni de Lecco" climbers in 1974.
The route is still by all means a beast. It's been climbed free a few times since all the bolts from the original route were chopped.

Cerro Torre was originally climbed by lugging an actual compressor up the face, in order to place bolts every few feet. This allowed the climbers to yank on bolts all the way up!
